Mississippi Beauty Schools by Program

Before you receive a cosmetology license in Mississippi, you must meet the following educational requirements established by the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology.
All Beauty Programs in Mississippi
You must attend a school that is approved by your state to provide training in the discipline you want to practice. Check with the school and the state board to be sure that your program of study will prepare you for any applicable state licensure.
- Cosmetologist: 1,500 training hours
- Cosmetology Instructor: Current license + 750 training hours with 2 years of experience or 2,000 hours if you have less than 2 years experience
- Barber: 1,500 training hours
- Manicurist: 350 training hours
- Esthetitician: 60 training hours
- Esthetician Instructor: Current license + 600 training hours with 2 years of experience or 1,000 training hours with less than two years experience
The license needs to be renewed every two years. Continued education is not required unless you are a master cosmetologist. In this case, you will need 16 hours of classes in the two years.
