Cosmetologist Licensing in Vermont

To obtain a license or a beauty practitioner’s certificate, according to the Vermont State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists, you have to attend a state accredited education program for a specified number of hours. Then you must take the State Board Exam for the career field you want to enter. Once you pass your exam, you are licensed to work in the state of Vermont.

Vermont does not require anyone other than instructors to have regular license renewals. However, it is always recommended that you take regular classes to gain further CEU credits so that you can keep up with modern styles and trends in your field. Every odd numbered year (ex. 2013 and 2015), instructors must pay $120 and renew their licenses by completing 24 hours of instruction and re-testing. If you are transferring to Vermont from another state, and your state education requirements meet or exceed those required in Vermont, you will be required to pay a $90 transfer fee and pass the State Laws and Rules Exam in order to work in Vermont.
