Texas maintains regulations for permanent makeup artists in regards to the practice of tattoo art including medical tattooing. These regulations can be found in the Texas Administrative Code under, Minimum Standards for Licensure of Tattoo and Certain Body Piercing Studios.   If you wish to operate a tattoo studio or temporary location it is required that you have a separate license under the law. The fee for a tattoo studio license is $450. To receive a temporary license, one must pay a fee of $600.

Like other states, you may not provide services to those who are under 18 years old without written consent from a parent. Those who refuse to comply with the regulations in the Texas Code may face suspension of a license, revocation of a license or fines.
