Overview of Barbering Schools and Curriculum in Oregon

When you attend barbering school in Oregon, you will learn so many different hair cuts and styles including classic cuts like the North End Taper, the Fortune 500, the Ivy League and the Wall Street, along with trendier, modern cuts like the Faux Hawk, and the South Beach Taper. You will learn how to shave your customers’ heads and how to work properly with scissors, clippers, combs and brushes.

Expect your training to be intense and fast paced. However, the monetary rewards will be significant. Once you complete your training and attain your license, you will have a solid trade under your belt that you can take with you wherever you go. You can make money in almost any town when you have the skills to cut male hair. Even males that have no real interest in fashion or style need haircuts and other grooming services from time to time, just to maintain a tidy appearance and represent themselves well to others.

Barber Licensing Requirements in Oregon

In order to get a barbering license in Oregon, you must complete 1100 hours of training at an accredited barbering training program. You will then be able to sit for your licensing exam. Once you pass the exam, the Oregon Health Licensing Agency will issue your barbering license. Your license must then be renewed every two years by the end of the month you first received your license.

For example, if you obtained your license on October 12th, 2013, you would have to renew by October 31st 2015.

Renewals cost $40 if you do them online. If you do them in person, they cost $45. You don’t have to attain any CEU credits to renew your license; however popular mens’ styles are always changing.

As a barber, you always want to maintain the ability to attract juvenile, teen and young adult clients since these clients could make up over 25% of your business. For this reason, continuing education should be a priority.
