School Accreditation

You must attend a school that is approved by your state to provide training in the discipline you want to practice. Check with the school and the state board to be sure that your program of study will prepare you for any applicable state licensure.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) outlines that hairdressers and cosmetologists are the professionals that help cut, maintain, and alter hair for clients and customers. Many cosmetologists and hair dressers are able to investigate any medical or aesthetic hair or scalp issues with a customer and recommend strategies to help them. Because of the aesthetic and health issues related to hair dressing and cosmetology, every state regulates the profession through a cosmetology board.
