Finding Your NY Fashion Design Program

New York is the fashion capital of the United States, offering students dozens of quality fashion design programs. Nearly half of all fashion designers in the country practice from New York. In New York, fashion school tuition averages $22,500 per semester. Scholarships average $10,634 and the acceptance rate hits just over 50% of applicants to their programs.

Most programs in New York offer special events such as fashion shows, internships in New York City with some of the most famous fashion houses, and opportunities to study in fashion capitols overseas. The fashion design programs at SUNY College at Buffalo are closely associated with the American Apparel Footwear Association (AAFA); the American Association of Textiles Chemists and Colorists (AATC); the American Collegiate Retailing Association (ACRA); and the International Textiles Apparel Textile Association (ITAA).The fashion design department offers scholarships and other financial assistance. In addition, the AAFA offers $5000 scholarships for fashion design majors every year.

Another option you may consider is the Cornell Institute of Fashion and Fiber Innovation (CIFFI).  Here you may have the chance to study and work with its apparel labs, state-of-the-art industrial production equipment, and computer and CAD systems including software, fabric printing and digitizers. The Cornell Costume and Textile Collection holds over 9000 items covering several centuries and including rare collections from around the world, and is another great fashion program choice.

The Fashion Institute of Technology affiliates with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and several apparel manufacturers.
