New York is one of the few states that does not require electrologists to have a license. The electrolysis profession is unregulated in New York. However, the New York Electrolysis Association is available to provide guidance to new professionals in the field. Electrologists may also wish to become a Certified Professional Electrologist through the American Electrology Association. The AEA has specific standards that it sets for electrolysis professionals with this designation, and clients will be more willing to hire individuals with the CPE designation.

According to the BLS, electrologists can expect to earn an annual average salary of about $34,000 a year. The salary is expected to experience a slight increase in the future.
