One option that exists for students is the Academy of Nail, Skin & Hair, Inc. in Billings, MT. There is also The Salon Professional Academy in Great Falls, MT, but it presents students with the option of a full cosmetology program, which focuses on barbering courses and training in skills like manicuring, pedicuring and skincare.

During a student’s time in a barbering school in Montana, he or she can expect to learn how to do clipper cuts. A student will also be taught how to cut and style hair, particularly short hairstyles. Straight razor shaving is part of the curriculum and so is services like coloring, relaxing and waving. Barber Licensing Requirements in Montana

The Montana Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists states that a person must have a high school education or the equivalent of one to be eligible to take the barber licensing exam. Additionally, an individual must complete at least 1,500 hours of training from an approved school. It’s required that a person be at least 18 years of age in order to take the test. Barbers from other states must have 1,500 school hours and have a barber license from another state that’s in good standing. In fact, the Board will look into every license that a student holds from different states to ensure that he or she is eligible to obtain licensure in MT.

Job and Employment Outlook for Barbers in Montana

The jobs in the field of barbering are expected to grow at a rate of seven percent over the course of the next eight years (until 2020). Barbers in Montana have the option to work in a barbershop or become a self-employed barber operating from their homes or opening an actual barbershop. A barber can expect to make $13.23 or $27,520 annually, as documented by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
