Licensing Requirements in Massachusetts

If you wish to receive a barber license in Massachusetts, then you will need to attend a school that has been licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Cosmetology. You will also need to ensure that you pass the exams that are put forth by the Massachusetts Board of Cosmetology upon your graduation. It is important for you to also ensure that you have met the minimum hour requirement. You may directly contact the Board to learn about the number of hours that you must receive in order to become a licensed barber.

After your first exam, you will need to renew your barber license after one year. From that time forward, you will be able to renew the license every two years. You do not need to earn any continuing education credits before you renew a license. You will need to pay a fee of $68 in order to renew a license.

You are not able to transfer a barber license from another state. You will still need to pass the exams that are put forth by the Board in order to receive a license in Massachusetts.
