Hair Cutting Licensing Requirements in Florida

To receive a hair cutting license in Florida, students should be aware that they will need to obtain at least 1,200 hours of training at an approved school in the state. Students should also be aware that they will need to successfully pass the Florida State Board Examination upon graduation from an accredited program. You will need to renew your license every other year. The fees that are imposed for renewal of a hair cutting license can range from $30 to $55. In addition, students should be advised that they will need to obtain at least 16 hours of continuing education credits in order to successfully renew a license. There is no reciprocity program in Florida, so individuals may not transfer hair cutting licenses from other states.

Employment Outlook for Hair Stylists in Florida

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average salary of hairdressers is $25,750. The BLS anticipates that the salary of hairdressers will increase by at least two percent in the next 10 years.
