Choosing Your Florida Fashion Design Program…

Florida colleges and universities offer a wide range of fashion design degree and certificate options. The average cost for a Florida fashion design program is $14,723 per year. Schools in Florida accept about 69% of applicants and they keep classes small at approximately 18 students per class. Many Florida fashion design majors get grants, scholarships and loans to pay for their education. Loans average nearly $8300 per year per student, and scholarships average $2260 per year.

Florida State University has their Retail Merchandising and Product Development department. Within that program, you learn the skills of fashion designing and gain the business and marketing know-how to start or run a fashion business.

FSU also offers a Master of Science degree in Clothing, Textiles, and Merchandising. Their student organizations include the Collegiate Merchandising Association, Fashion Inc. and a chapter of the American Association of Textile Colorists and Chemists. The fashion students also publishes the fashion magazine, Clutch, every semester.

If you chose to attend Lynn University, you will attend Fashion Week in either Los Angeles or New York. Students also visit the Apparel MAGIC trade show in Law Vegas. You may choose to graduate with combined degrees in business and fashion design, giving you the foundations to manage all aspects of a healthy fashion business.

Northwood University-Florida fashion design students spend a week in New York or Europe as a degree requirement. They learn first-hand about the different segments of the fashion industry. Students attend the MAGIC trade show in Las Vegas and get to network with some of the biggest names in the business. Northwood students take field trips related to the fashion industry, including llama farms, major fashion collections, and museums.

Working as a Florida Fashion Designer

As a graduate of a Florida fashion design school, you may enjoy the benefits of a profession growing by 48% in the state. Fashion designer salaries are also growing, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Currently, fashion designers in Florida earn an annual average salary of $62,290. Fashion design graduates might want to become involved in the Fashion Designers Expo Florida in order to network with other designers and to stay up to date on industry trends.
