Makeup Artist Licensing in Delaware

Delaware does impose a license requirement for makeup artists in the state. The Delaware Board of Cosmetology & Barbering has a minimum requirement of attendance for at least 70 days in school for makeup artists. The Board administers two exams that must be completed prior to application for a license. License applicants must show documentation of completion of the 10th grade and be a minimum of 16 years old. The cost of a license in Delaware is $143. After you graduate from a makeup artistry program, you will have the skills and knowledge needed to be successful on the required exams.

Job and Employment Outlook for Make-up Artists in Delaware

Makeup artists can elect to work on their own or work for cosmetic, film, television, entertainment or fashion companies. Many makeup artists choose to work on a freelance basis due to the fact that they can set their own hours and salary requirements. Makeup artists also are able to provide consulting work when they work as freelance makeup artists, and this can provide additional income.

According to the BLS, makeup artists earn an average salary of about $29,000 a year. The salary is expected to grow by a small percentage in the future. Over 1,500 makeup artists are employed in the state.
