Nail Technician Licensing in Alabama

In order to be eligible to take the nail technician licensing test for Alabama, you must attend an accredited cosmetology school in Alabama. Alabama requires either 750 of classroom instruction or 1200 hours of apprenticeship sponsored by someone with a master license for nail technicians. Students who complete their training hours must then apply to for their license within 90 days. The nail technician license exams consist of both a written exam and a practical exam. The practical exam tests students on setup and client protection, manicure, nail tip, nail wrap, sculptured nail, and polish. Since no license is valid for more than two years, all personal care professionals must renew their licenses every other year during their birthday month on odd numbered years (such as 2013 and 2015). Renewals cost $80 and you are not required to take any additional classes. However, your clients will expect you to stay be aware of current fashion trends, so it’s a good idea to take an occasional continuing education class anyway. Alabama does not accept reciprocity from other states. If you would like to move your license to the state of Alabama, contact the Alabama Board of Cosmetology to apply for a license. They will then help you begin the process of obtaining your license in Alabama.
