Hair Cutting Licensing Requirements in Alabama

You must take a two-part exam that’s administered by PSI in order to become a licensed hair stylist in Alabama. The test consists of a written portion and a practical exam. To be eligible to take the examination, you must complete a licensed cosmetology program. The course must last at least 1,500 hours in length. You can opt to complete an apprenticeship with a licensed cosmetologist as well. Your apprenticeship must last for at least 3,000 hours before you will be eligible to gain licensure.
