There are several requirements that you must meet in order to qualify for a cosmetology instructor license in Alabama. The Board requires that you have completed at least 1,250 credit hours in a cosmetology program. Alternatively, you may also be asked to submit evidence of 1,700 actual clock hours of training. The Board requires that you have completed an approved cosmetology program offering at least 650 credit hours and have one year of experience as a practicing cosmetologist. Cosmetologists must also have completed high school or have a G.E.D. to become instructors in Alabama.

Cosmetologists can also choose to become demonstrators in Alabama. Demonstrators perform demonstrations of hair cutting techniques and other aspects of cosmetology. This professional also requires you become  licensed in the state.
