Pennsylvania Makeup Artist License Requirements

If you want to work as a makeup artist, you probably have many questions. One of the first things you will want to figure out is the best path towards state licensure. Unfortunately, for prospective makeup professionals, Pennsylvania does not have a designated makeup license. Instead, you will have to earn your cosmetology or esthetician license. Each program offers unique extra skills that can supplement your makeup services.

Cosmetology programs include makeup, but also help you learn the art of hair and nails. Esthetics programs will also teach you makeup skills, and help you learn techniques in the facial sciences. This can include hair removal, waxing, head and neck massage, eyelash and eyebrow, airbrush, and more.

To get a better idea of which program would be the best complement to your make up artist education, visit our pages dedicated to those types of programs:

The key is finding the right makeup artist program to complement your path to official licensure. That’s why it’s important to look at all your options and ask as many questions as you can think of before you make the decision to enroll.

How to Renew a Makeup License in Pennsylvania

For those who earn their cosmetologist or esthetician’s license as the equivalent of their makeup artist license, you will need to learn about the renewal process. It is important to keep your status current or you cannot legally work in this state. You have to renew by January 31 or odd-numbered years. The fee is $67, and you’ll also need to submit a renewal application with this expense.
