You are energetic, creative, and resilient. On top of that, you like working with people. If this describes you, a career in cosmetology could be extremely rewarding for you. Becoming a licensed cosmetologist allows you to see clients for hair, nails, and skin, so every day is a little bit different from the one before it. If you are ready for an exciting new job that keeps you on your feet, an Oklahoma cosmetology license is the first step.

To become licensed to work in the field of cosmetology, you must precisely follow the requirements to get a beauty license in Oklahoma. These standards are set by the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. In addition to meeting the total minimum training hour requirement, you must get a set amount of training in different skills and topics.

The topics mandated for licensure are listed here, with the amount of training hours listed in parentheses:

• Theory (150 hours)

In addition, obtaining a license may give you access to professional beauty shops, training events, and other professional venues.

Requirements for Renewing Your Cosmetology License in Oklahoma

The Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology is also responsible for renewing cosmetology licenses. You should receive a notice in the mail when it is time to renew your license, but you should still be familiar with the renewal schedule in case your notice gets lost. Renew your license every year by the last day of your birth month to avoid late fees. The regular renewal fee is $25, and renewing late costs an additional $10. Oklahoma cosmetologists are not required to complete any continuing education hours as part of the renewal process.

If you can see yourself working in high end beauty salons and turning clients’ dreams into reality, don’t wait any longer.
