In the state of South Dakota, you’ll learn the skills you need to give a client an outstanding manicure and pedicure. The course will prepare a student to give a manicure from start to finish, and the same goes with a pedicure. A portion of the curriculum will include care techniques on a client’s real nails. This includes how to cut nails and how to shape them by using a file. A student learns the proper equipment to use and how to store and sanitize the tools properly during his or her education. These techniques will help a student learn to prevent cross contamination. Students will learn techniques like airbrushing and skills needed to do nail art.

Nail Technician Licensing Requirements in South Dakota

If you plan to work in The Mount Rushmore State, you must have already earned your high school diploma or the equivalent of it. You also must be at least 18 years of age to obtain your license and to qualify for a nail technician training program. Those who have a license in another state, even if it is inactive, are eligible for licensure in SD. The nail tech program you select must be at least 400 hours in length. You can lessen that time if you have work experience. Every two hours of work experience is the equivalent of one hour of education. However, you can only use up to 200 hours of work experience. Once you complete your training, you must pass the national exam.
