Licensing Requirements for Cosmetology Instructors in Oregon

The State of Oregon Board of Cosmetology issues your cosmetology instructor license after the Oregon Health Licensing Agency approves your application. There are two ways to receive your cosmetology instructor license in Oregon.  You can complete the 1,000 hour teacher training course from an accredited beauty school or a combination of no less than two years of education and work experience.  This can be one year of work experience combined with the equivalent of one year of education or you can complete two years of work experience.

Hair design instructors in Oregon will then receive a demonstration permit to teach others. The application fee is $25 and the fee to get your permit is $50. You must have a hair design license or have a license from another state to teach cosmetology, for the board to issue you a demonstration permit.
