Licensing Requirements for Cosmetology Instructors in Mississippi

Mississippi requires that as a cosmetology instructor, you obtain additional licensing to a cosmetology license.   Mississippi, unlike a majority of other states, has separate license requirements for cosmetologist instructors and esthetician instructors. To become a cosmetologist instructor, you must have a current cosmetology license, 12 college semester hours and 750 hours from an approved cosmetology instructor training program. An alternative option is to obtain at least 2,000 hours of work experience. If you have less than two years of work experience, you only need to have 1,000 hours. Licenses must be renewed every two years in Mississippi. You will also be required to earn 24 hours of continuing education credits every two years. To become an esthetician instructor, you need to have a current esthetician license and at least 600 hours from an approved training program.
